In Zanzibar, HIV continues to affect many families, especially young people. Although treatment is available, medication and medical care are not always fully funded. Because of fear and misunderstanding surrounding the disease, many children are rejected by their families and left without a safe place to call home.
At ZASO Children's Home, 48 children receive shelter, meals, medical support, education, and people who care for them. Through your guidance, they are prepared to eventually live independently and create a better life for themselves.
ZASO Children's Home does not receive financial support from the government and depends entirely on private donations and volunteers. Providing food, school supplies, medication, and education for 48 children is only possible with the support of people:

The children spend most of their days at the Children's Home. The children are highly motivated to learn and especially eager to improve their English as it opens doors for employment in the tourism. This why volunteers and interns make such a difference.
As a volunteer or intern, you will work directly with the children and the ZASO team. You will not only help improve the children's lives, you will become part of the community.

A great example of the impact donations can make is the support ZASO Children's Home received from CRDB Bank. Thanks to their contribution, the children's home was able to receive a bus that now safely transports the children to school and on educational trips.
Before this donation, the children often had to walk for more than an hour or use public transport. Unfortunately, because of the reputation surrounding HIV, some children experienced rejection and discrimination while travelling. The bus now provides them with a safe way to get where they need to go.
